This is a project that I currently hope to have finished by 12th Night (Jan 7th, 2006). I am making a round kirtle of black silk satin and a loose gown of blue wool guarded in the same satin. I think it will be very lovely and I can't wait to finish the project. :)

Kirtle Bodice (front)

Kirtle bodice (back). I truly hate and despise sewing eylets with every fiber of my being so they are always the last thing that is done one the project.

I attached the skirt to the bodige by cartridge pleating the skirt directly to the bodice

Here's the view from the back. I hate it when the light play's up the wrinkles in the bodice. It's really very well fitted but it does need a little ironing and to be laced properly.

A detail of the cartidge pleats.

I used wool to to interline the first 10-12 inches of the skirt to add body and weight the the pleats. The skirt is fully lined with linen so you won't ever be able to see it so I have taken a picture before the skirt is finished.

The sleeves. I ues a wool braid for the decoration and pinked between the braids.

Detail of the pinking. There is a wrinkle in the fabric so the pinks don't look as even as they are. The are all 1 inch long and the design is based onthe pinking design used in the trim of the Svante Sture suit found in Janet Arnold's Pattern's of Fasion ( c1560-1620).

Well, we are now nearing completion (Dec 27th). The gown still needs to be top stiched, the collar finished and added, buttons added, the kirtle needs eyelets, and the gown and kirtle need to be hemmed. Almost done!!

Here are two pictures of the linings of the sleves. I made the entire loose gown out of 3.5 yards of wool and lined it with 3 yards of linen. I have very little left over and even had to piece the sleve linings, which you can see here. The won't show at all when the gown is worn.
